THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH
December 26, 2010

The Spirit of Christmas is not found under a tree… the Spirit of Christmas is found in our hearts.
Merry Christmas!

Duties towards parents
“…For the Lord honors’ the father in his children, and upholds the rights of a mother over her sons. For kindness to a father shall not be forgotten but will serve as reparation for your sins.”
(Ecclesiastcus Sirach 3:3, 14)
Family life is rooted in the unconditional love of God.

Blessing for the devout
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways.
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.”
(Psalm 128: 1-2)
This psalm celebrates the domestic happiness granted by God to the virtuous, in accordance with the teaching of the sages on earthly retribution.
Do you believe that God rewards good in this life?
Will happy, godly families lead to a prosperous, peaceful nation?

Rules for Holy Living
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach…”
(Colossian 3: 12, 15, 16)
When you need to feel like a “new person,” what outfit do you like to wear?
The new creation will not be divided into races and religions and cultures and social classes in the way the present creation has been since the fall: the whole world will be reunited in-Christ

The flight into Egypt. The massacre of the Innocents. From Egypt to Nazareth.
“… The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child to kill him”
(Matthew 2:13-14)
If you (or your father) were transferred to another country where your company (or your father’s) also conducts business, where would you go? What feelings would accompany your special placement?
From Joseph’s responsiveness, what do you learn about faith and obedience?
How long would it take you to say “yes” if God asked you to move on with him?
Why the delay?

Our GOD has appeared on earth, and lived among men!

Year 2011

Religious Freedom, the Path to Peace
The world needs God. It needs universal, shared ethical and spiritual values, and religion can offer a precious contribution to their pursuit, for the building of a just and peaceful social order at the national and international levels.
Peace is a gift of God and at the same tile a task which is never fully completed.
A society reconciled with God is closer to peace, which is not the mere absence of war or the result of military or economic supremacy, much less deceptive ploys or clever manipulation. Rather, peace is the result of a process of purification and of cultural, moral and spiritual elevation involving each individual and people, a process in which human dignity is fully respected.
Religious freedom is an authentic weapon of peace, with and historical and prophetic mission. Peace brings to full fruition the deepest qualities and potentials of the human person, the qualities which can change the world and make it better.
(From Message the Pope Benedict XVI, 2011)

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 19, 2010

“Let the clouds rain down the Just One, and the earth bring forth a Savior.”

The sign of Immanuel
“Once again the Lord spoke to Ahaz and said, ‘Ask the Lord your God for a sign for yourself coming either from the depths of Sheol or from the heights above…
The Lord himself, therefore, will give you a sign. It is this: the maiden is with child and will soon give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel.”
(Isaiah 7: 10, 14)
Matthew 1:23 shows that Jesus fulfilled Isaiah 7:14 far more than any child in Ahaz’ day could have.
When facing a crisis, how have you seen Jesus as “Immanuel” (God with us)?

Antiphonal psalm for solemn entry into the sanctuary
“To the Lord belong earth and all it holds, the world and all who live in it; he himself founded it on the ocean, based it firmly on the nether sea.”
(Psalm 24:1)
He is the king of glory.

Address
“From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus who has been caked to be an apostle, and specially chosen to preach the Good News that God promised long ago through his prophets in the scriptures.
This news is about the Son of God who, according to the human nature he took…”
(Romans 1:1-3)
Paul with his own Christian spirit said to us: God’s freedom to choose his people; the connection between faith and being made holy; salvation through Christ’s death and resurrection; the harmony of the two Testaments; for this the God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ send grace and peace.

The virginal conception of Christ
“This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.”
(Matthew 1:18)
Apart from fulfilling prophecy, why was Jesus’ virgin birth necessary?
How have you experienced Jesus as “Immanuel” in your life lately?
What do you learn about faith from Joseph?

(“JESUS” –Hebr. Yehoshua- means “God saves”.)

  The Christmas Season

The Christmas season extends from the Mass of the Vigil of Christmas Friday at 5:00 p.m. December 24, 2010 through the Baptism of the Lord, Sunday,
9 January 2011
The Spirit of Christmas is not found under a tree… the Spirit of Christmas is found in our hearts.
Merry Christmas!!!

December 24 - FRIDAY
VIGIL OF CHRISTMAS Mass
 At 5:00 p.m.

December 25 - Saturday:
The Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)
Mass at 10:00 a.m.
(No Mass at 5:00 p.m. Saturday)

Thank you!
For the flowers offerings, for the Christmas tree, for all the work of art and decorations. For lectors, ministers of the Eucharist, music, the children on the Pageant, all the persons work very hard for the Parish.
Thank you for your present all together makes the Christmas
2010 -2011

Because of JESUS
Because of love, He came for us.
Because of grace, He died.
Because of hope, He gave His life a living sacrifice.
Because of Him, we live today.
He freed our souls from sin. Because of Christmas, we have hope- It’s all because Him.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 12, 2010

GAUDETE
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice!
The Lord is near.
(Philippians 4:4, 5)

Joy of the Redeemed
The Judgment of God
“The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom… They will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way…”
(Isaiah 35: 1, 2, 3)
After a long, cold winter, what is the first spring flower that you watch for?
What pressure are “causing your hands and knees to tremble” now?

Praise the Lord! Alleluia!
“The Lord God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – the Lord, who remains faithful forever.”
(Psalm 146: 6)
God has come to heal and save us!

A final exhortation: Patience in Suffering
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. Think of a farmer; how patiently he waits… You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon. Do not make complaints against one another, brothers and sisters…”
(James 5: 7, 8, 9)
What lessons are provided by the farmer?
When you experience hardship, what enables you to be patient and wait for God? What has really tested that?

The Baptist’s question – Jesus commends him
“Now John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?”
(Matthew 11: 2, 3)
John the Baptist is not expressing complete doubt about Jesus, but he is surprised to find that he is a very different, sort of Messiah from what he had expected.
What kinds of “prisons” tend to bring out doubts for you regarding Jesus?
In those periods of discouragement and doubt, what most renews your courage and faith?

Advent
Every one of us, therefore, especially in this Season which prepares us for Christmas, can ask himself: What am I waiting for? What, at this moment of my life, does my heart long for? And this same question can be posed at the level of the family, of the community, of the nation. What are we waiting for together? What unites our aspirations, what brings them together? In the time before Jesus’ birth the expectation of the Messiah was very strong in Israel – that is, the expectation of an Anointed one… Benedict XVI

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 5, 2010

The coming of the virtuous king
The branch from Jesse
“A shoot springs from the stock of Jesse, a scion thrusts his roots. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord…”
(Isaiah 11: 1-3)
A messianic poem describing in some detail the salient characteristic of the coming Messiah: of Davidic stock; he will be filled with the spirit of the prophets; will establish among men that integrity which is the reflection of God’s sanctity on earth; he will restore the peace of Eden, which is the fruit of knowledge of God.

“Justice shall flourish in his time and fullness of peace for ever!”
(Psalm 71)

Love in God’s peace
“Accept one another, them, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
(Roman 15: 7)
Christ welcomed the pagans, and thus gave glory to God.
Christ gave evidence of God’s loyalty to his promise, the converted pagans being living evidence rather of God’s mercy. Let these in their turn be merciful to their brothers and sisters in the faith.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way
“ … This was his message: ‘Repent,’ for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand…
A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.”
(Matthew 3: 1, 3)
Who has been a “John the Baptist” in your life?
How did he or she prepare you to meet Jesus?
“Metanoía,” rendered ‘repentance’, implies a change of heart; conversion in the technical ascetical sense.

“I will Reins”

“Advent is the season of the presence and expectation of the eternal!”
Benedict XVI

In 1531, Our Lady appeared four times to a native convert, Juan Diego “Cuauhtlatoatzin” (meaning “the talking eagle”), at Tepeyac, near Mexico City. A member of the Chichimeca people, he was perhaps a leader of his own people and may have been involved in the area’s textile industry. Known for his holiness, he devoted himself, tradition says, to the pilgrims who came to see the miraculous image of Mary imprinted on his cloak.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
November 28, 2010

The Mountain of the Lord
“In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it… Many people will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord… He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”                         (Isaiah 2: 2 -3)

“The mountain of the Lord” refers to the site upon which the temple in Jerusalem was built. What picture does Isaiah envision?
Why are so many coming to the temple?

“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
(Psalm 122: 1)
Jerusalem solidly restored, is a symbol of the unity of the chosen people (versions ‘that is one in fellowship’) and a type of the unity of the Church.

Children of the Light * Love, for the Day is Near
“Besides, you know ‘the time’ has come: you must wake up now: our salvation is even nearer that it was when we were converted. The night is almost over, it will be daylight soon…”                   (Roman 13: 11-12)
How would your life be different if you consciously tried to “wear” Jesus Christ? What must change to insure a better fit?
The ‘time’ (kairos) is apparently the eschatological era, called in the Bible the “latter days”, introduced by Christ’s death and resurrection and coextensive with the age of the Church on earth, the age of salvation.

Be on the alert
“…So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming… Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
(Matthew 24: 42, 44)
What is one thing you can say for certain about the day and the hour of the second coming of Christ?
Specifically, how are you preparing for the Second Coming?

“Show us, LORD, you love; and grant us your salvation!”

Season of ADVENT
“Coming”, in Latin adventus, from which the term “Advent” derives.
Let us reflect briefly on the meaning of this word, which can be rendered with “presence”, “arrival” or “coming”.
The essential meaning of the word adventus was: God is here, he has not withdrawn from the world, and he neither has nor deserted us. Even if we cannot see and touch him as we can tangible realities, he is here and comes to visit us in many ways…
Advent, this powerful liturgical season that we are beginning, invites us to pause in silence to understand a presence. It is an invitation to understand that the individual events of the day are hints that God give us a glimpse of his love! To keep, as it were, an “interior journal” of this love would be a beautiful and salutary task for our life!

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
THE KING
34th and the last Sunday of
 Ordinary Time)
November 21, 2010

David is anointed king of Israel
“All the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron. ‘Look’ they said ‘we are your own flesh and blood… You are the man who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you shall be the leader of Israel.’ …and King David made a pact with them in Hebron in the presence of the Lord, and they anointed David king of Israel.”
(2 Samuel 5: 1, 2, 3,)
Why did Israel’s elders believe in David?
What has David’s life been like since he was first anointed by Samuel? And now?
Which promises of God you still patiently waiting to see fulfilled in your lifetime?
In Hebron, David is hailed as king of all the tribes of Israel!

Hail, Jerusalem!
“I rejoice with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’
Our feet are standing in your gates, O Jerusalem.”
(Psalm 122: 1-2)
The pilgrims halt at the gates and salute the holy city with ‘Shalom!’ (‘Peace!’) Alluding to the popular etymology of ‘Jerusalem’, ‘city of peace’. This ‘peace’ plays a prominent part in the messianic hope.
In what way, small or large, did you “make peace” with someone this past week?

Christ is the head of all creation
“Giving thanks to the Father, who has made it possible for you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Because that is what he has done: he has taken us out of the power of darkness and created a place for us in the kingdom of the Son that he loves, and in him, we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins.
Christ is the image of unseen God and the first-born of all creation…”
(Colossians 1: 12-14; 15)
At times, what people (or forces) seem to be more powerful that Jesus? Why? How do you respond to the fact that even these things are under Christ’s authority?

The crucified Christ is mocked &
 The good thief
“The people stay there watching him. As for the leaders, they jeered at him. “He saved others;’ they said ‘let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.’
…Jesus, he said ‘remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ ‘Indeed, I promise you,’ he replied ‘today you will be with me in paradise.”
(Luke 23: 35, 42-43)
Jesus is anointed king on the wood of his cross, a sign of paradox, of defeat yet final victory.
