THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH AND
THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS: THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD
December 29th & 30th 2007
Family life is rooted in the unconditional love of God as witnessed by the Holy Family.
We seek God's blessings as did Mary. Because of her Son, we can confidently call God, "Abba"!
A Blessing of Angels
If you look into the scriptures you find that angels encircled the entire life of Jesus, from the angel's invitation asking Mary to welcome Jesus in her womb to the blessed moment of an angel announcing his being raised from the dead.
May the angel of the annunciation bless you, inviting you daily to awaken to the God-life within you.
May the Angel of Joseph's dreams bless you, stirring your spirit to trust the many ways that Mystery whispers to you.
May the angel of birthing bless you, calling forth wonder, awe, and gratitude for all that has helped you to become your true self.
May the angel of Bethlehem-songs bless you, tickling your soul with laughter and joy, heralding hope and good tiding to you.
May the angel of the journey to Egypt bless you, guiding and protecting you as you travel the inner and outer roads of your life.
May the angel of desert wilderness bless you, bringing courage when you experience bleak, intense searching and struggle.
May the angel of prayer bless you, gathering you closely to the divine Beloved who longs for you embrace.
May the angel of children on the lap of Jesus bless you, helping you to see the beauty and freedom of your inner child.
May the angel of the agony in the garden bless you, offering you solace in your times of tribulation.
May the angel at the tomb of resurrection bless you with faith, assuring your faith and trust that all shall be well.

FOURTH SUNDAY
OF ADVENT
December 23, 2007
Jesus is Immanuel, "God with us", risen from the dead. He is the king of glory.
In Jesus, God comes to pitch his tent among us.
On a National Geographic "Explorer" TV program recently, the story of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1873-1922) was told.
Shackleton was a British explorer who commanded a south polar expedition in 1907-1909, during which Mt Erebus on Antarctica was climbed, the south magnetic pole was located, and the plateau was crossed to within 100 miles of the South Pole.
In 1915, Shackletond led an expedition to Antarctica which nearly ended in tragedy. His ship got caught in ice and eventually was crushed. The crew had to flee, taking with them what provisions they could carry. They drifted 180 miles on an ice floe to Elephant Island where there was an old supply hut. From there Shackleton and a few of his men sailed 800 miles in a small boat on wild seas to South Georgia Island. After a near tragic landing (the rudder broke apart just as they reached a rocky shore), they made a nearly impossible crossing of the rugged mountain range to a whaling village on the opposite shore.
Meanwhile, the men he left behind at Elephant Island had exhausted their supplies and had nearly given up hope that the "boss"—that's what they called Shackleton—would make it back to save them. But he did, and one can only imagine the excitement of those beleaguered men the day they sighted Shackleton's rescue ship making its way through the stormy Antarctic Ocean to Elephant Island. The "boss" had arrived, just as he said he would

Light dawns for us all!
Out of ETERNITY, Out of His LOVE,
GOD gave His best gift JESUS came from above
He came as a baby homeless and poor.
And centuries late still knocks at the door.
He's GOD's gift of LIFE as He's been from the start.
With no need for an inn if there's room in your HEART.
At Christmas and always, may His abundant love bring you many blessings.
May your Christmas be blessed with all that you hold dear… faith, family, friends and most of all, love.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 16, 2007
John the Baptist's Act of Faith in Jesus
Our faith grows strong under duress
In her book Return to Love, Marianne Williamson points out that a friend said to her, "Marianne, I'm so depressed by world hunger!" Marianne replied: "Do you give five dollars a week to one of the organizations that feed the hungry?" She goes on to say she asks this question because she noticed how people who participate in solving problems don't seem to be as depressed as those standing on the sidelines doing nothing.
Have we recently gone out of way to help someone?
In the person of Jesus, God has come to heal and save us. Patiently, yet joyfully, we await the fulfillment of his advent.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 9, 2007
Advent A Time for Watching
In Advent we await Jesus, our light.
A teacher introduced a sentence to his students and asked them what they thought of it. The sentence was "Wait for the light." Some thought it was beautiful, others thought it was a good spiritual maxim to live by. Finally, he told them where he read it: on the comer of an intersection that flashed the warning: "Wait for the light."
Do we habitually make important decisions without first praying to Jesus for light?
Advent John the Baptist Preaches Repentance
While working on his famous painting, "The Last Supper," Leonardo daVinci had an argument with a certain man. He lashed out against the fellow with bitter words and threatening gestures. When the argument was over, daVinci went back to his canvas where he was working on the face of Jesus. He could not make one stroke. At last he realized what the trouble was. He put down his brush, found the man he had offended, and asked his forgiveness. He returned to his studio and calmly continued painting the face of Jesus.
Who do we need to forgive?

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 2, 2007
PRAISE! Be to the Lord, he has Redeemed his people!
Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
Margy
Margy's beeper went off as I was sitting next to her at a parish gathering. She shifted the tubes that connected her to her portable oxygen thank, leaned over, and calmly said, "Do you know where I can find the nearest phone?" The beeper meant one of two things: either she was being summoned for surgery or it went off accidentally. Her friends gathered and began to pray as Margy went to call the hospital. It turned out to be a false alarm.
Recalling this incident later, I pondered the maturity of faith of this extraordinary woman. Margy could be called for surgery at any time. The success of the operation was not guaranteed. On one hand, it might be the gateway to a new life. On the other hand, it might worsen her condition even to the point of death.
The decision to enter such a scheme requires enormous strength of character. Margy lives each day in faith. Peacefully and matter-of-factly she goes about her business; waiting, hoping, longing for the tangible gift of full health, yet knowing that the fulfillment of God's promise to her might be to meet the Lord face-to-face. Either way, when that beeper goes off, Margy is ready.
Your story
How does the gift of hope get you through tough times?
Is there a likely scenario in your own future which you'd rather not thing about (e.g., the possibility of losing your job or losing someone you love) How "prepared" are you to deal with such an event?
Name ten things in your life for which you are grateful.

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING
November 25, 2007
Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Feast Kingship of Christ
Most Sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thy altar. We are Thine and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united to Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy Most Sacred Heart.
Many indeed have never known Thee: Many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful children who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee: Grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.
Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd.
Turn Thine eyes of mercy toward the children of every race, once Thy chosen people. Of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.
Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor forever. Amen.

The Word of God speaks to us:
"…the day is coming…the day that is coming will set them on fire, says the Lord of hosts; but for you who fear my name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healings rays."
Prophet Malachi 3:19-20
"The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice and the people with equity. With trumpets and the sound of the horn sing joyfully before the Kin, the Lord."
Psalm 98
"…We hear that there are some people among you who live lazy lives and who do nothing except meddle in other people's business. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their own living…"
2 Thessalonians 3:11-12
"Some of the disciples were talking about the Temple, how beautiful it looked with its fine stones and the gifts offered to God. Jesus said, 'All this you see the time will come when not a single stone here will be left in its place; every one will be thrown down… Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a single hair from your heads will be lost. Stand firm, and you will save yourselves."

Stewardship
Whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is a grace. 1 Peter 2:19
Every Christian call is in some way a call to persecution and martyrdom. In many places in the world in our day Christians are persecuted and in danger of death. Each one of us is called to die daily to self and to imitate the suffering Christ. Is our faith strong enough that it can withstand persecution and hold fast in the face of death?

Living in Gratitude
O gracious God, who so generously lavishes our lives with goodness, create in our hearts a deep center of gratitude, a center that grows so strong in its thanksgiving that sharing freely of our treasures becomes the norm and the patter of our existence. Remind us often of how much you cherish us, of how abundantly you have offered gifts to us, especially in the hours of our greatest need. May we always be grateful for your reaching into our lives with surprises of joy, growth, and unearned love. Amen
(Fresh Bread by Joyce Rupp)
THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
November 11, 2007
The Gifts of Life, Love and Time
"There is more happiness in giving than in receiving." (Acts 20:35)
November: Thanksgiving Day, harvest times, awareness of blessings, gratitude for gifts. It is significant and necessary for us to ponder deeply all that we have been given. If we reflect quietly, we can be almost overwhelmed by all that is ours. God has been very generous. None of the gifts has been earned. God gives all gifts freely. Even Jesus is an abundant, free gift to us. God is lavish in love, generous in the outpouring of goodness. This great generosity can draw us to look at our own generosity: How generous have we been with others in our lives? Are we people who freely give of our treasures? Do we yearn to have the heart of our God, the one who lavishes love upon us freely? Do we cherish deeply all that we are and all that we have been given? Do we hold that love with open hands, allowing it to be readily available to others or do we clutch it to ourselves in fear that we might lose it?
I've noticed something happening in our world at an ever more intense level. It scares me. Many people experience economic problems that do not seem to go away. Yet others have begun to clutch things to themselves. It see so easy to allow a quiet greed to smother the generosity of our hearts. People seem afraid that they will not have enough.
A generous heart freely gives and can live without some of the material things we think are so desperately needed. A generous heart is also one that can give freely of the greater, nonmaterial gifts such as compassion, understanding, patience and forgiveness.
As you reflect on all the ways that God has been generous to you and as you give away some of what you cherish and hold dear, may your heart grow in the wisdom that "no one ever becomes poor by giving."

Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement. (Bar 4:30)
It is easy to fall into discouragement and to see our situation as hopeless. But discouragement is a tool of the enemy of mankind, the devil. Let us counter him by being agents of encouragement in our world. In doing so, we become a powerful force for good and for the kingdom of God.

The first Thanksgiving took place in 1620, when the Pilgrims left England aboard the Mayflower and sailed to America on a rough, dangerous and exhausting 62 days journey across the Atlantic.

November 4, 2007
The Lord is full of mercy and compassion, slow to anger and of great kindness.
He has come to search out and save what was lost.
Let us be more concerned with doing the Lord's work than with idle speculation about when he will come again.
Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree
Jesus seeks out everyone
A little girl heard her minister read from Like's gospel the
words spoken concerning Jesus by the religious Pharisees: "This man receives
sinners and eats with them." She pricked up her ears and after the service was
over she went up to the minister and said,
"I didn't know my name was in the Bible." The pastor said, "Why, Edith, I don't
believe it is." "Oh, yes, you read it this morning. The part that said Jesus
receives sinners and Edith with them."
Are we convinced that we are important in God's eyes? Does this conviction change the way we live?

STEWARDSHIP
The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal. (Ez. 34:16)
Repentance is an ongoing process. We can constantly better ourselves before God and through his grace. This does not mean that we have to always feel guilty and unworthy, but that we should be constantly turning away from sin and evil and toward God. In other words, we should always seek to grow in holiness.

Humility is the recognition that no matter what our accomplishments, we still stand in need of the Lord. "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted." Luke 18:14
God hears the cry of the poor and of the oppressed, especially those who acknowledge their dependency upon him. "The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan or to the widow when she pours out her complaint." Sirach 35:13
Having heard Paul's cries for help, the Lord crowned him with eternal salvation. "The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom." Second of Timothy 4:18
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ and entrusting to us the message of salvation.

The Pig and the Cow
A pig and a cow lived on the same farm. The pig was puzzled because he was unpopular while the cow was loved by everyone. The pig said to the cow: "people always speak kindly of your gentle nature and your generosity. They say every day you give them milk and cream. But I give them everything I have. They even pickle my feet! Yet no one likes me, but they love you. Why?"
The cow replied, "Maybe it's because I give while I'm still living."

TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
October 21, 2007
Through incessant prayer, we open ourselves more fully to understanding God's will. Through faith in the power of prayer, we experience God's love and assistance.
Our Christian life is nourished by the scriptures we read and by our received tradition.
VATICAN II On October 11, 1962, 45 years ago, after nearly four years of exhaustive preparation, the Council finally opened.
In a positive and optimistic speech, the eighty-year-old Pope John XXIII gently chided the prophets of doom within the Church and spoke of the world's need for the medicine of mercy.
How Much More Will the Father Give
Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.
Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly: I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behavior; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.
Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one.
Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to my own wishes.
Only for today, I will devote ten minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.
Blessed Pope John XXIII
Blessed John XXIII (+ 1963) was beatified on September 3, 2000).

Stewardship
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? Luke 18:7
In a pragmatic culture which demands quick and preferably easy solutions to every problem, we may find it difficult to recognize the steady, patient, ever-active, and surprising work of God. We seek surface results; God transforms the depths that define the surface. When we ask, God answers – sometimes quickly and obviously, but often with a far-reaching love whose fruits we are slow to see.

Then Lepers
Giving thanks to God nourishes our soul, makes us joyful.
Winston Churchill loved to tell the story of the little boy who fell off a pier into deep ocean water. An older sailor, heedless of the great danger to himself, dove into the stormy water, struggled with the boy, and finally, exhausted, brought him to safety. Two days later the boy's mother came with him to the same pier, seeking the sailor who rescued her son. Finding him, she asked, "You dove into the ocean to bring my boy out?"
"I did," he replied.
The mother quickly demanded, "Then where's his hat?"
When we do what we believe is right, we shouldn't always expect gratitude. How often do we thank God for all that we have been given?
Let us remain steadfast in faith, and thankful for the Lord's blessings.

Faith Moving Mountains
Faith leads to duty well done
Paganini, the great violinist, came out before his audience one day and made the discovery just as the applause ended that there was something wrong with his violin. He looked at it a second and then saw that it was not his famous and valuable one. He felt paralyzed for a moment, then turned to his audience and told them there had been some mistake and he did not have his own violin. He stepped back behind the curtain thinking that it was still where he had left it, but discovered that someone had stolen his and left that old secondhand one in its place. He remained back of the curtain a moment, then came out before his audience and said: "Ladies and gentlemen, I will show you that the music is not in the instrument but in the soul." And he played as he had never played before; and out of that secondhand instrument, the music poured forth until his audience was enraptured with enthusiasm and the applause almost lifted the roof off the building, because the man had revealed to them that the music was not in the machine but in his own soul.

The Infant in My Womb Leaped For Joy!
"When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?"
(From the gospel of Luke 1:41ss)
We know the story. The Archangel Gabriel had announced to the Virgin Mary God's invitations to become the mother of the Messiah…
Both Elizabeth's pregnancy and Mary's –despite their unusual circumstances- are cause for rejoicing…
To be sure, most parents love their children generously and even unconditionally. But today the inherent, priceless value of every child – as a unique individual created and loved by God- is no longer universally accepted…
Unborn children are routinely dehumanized by the abortion industry…
Consider: Despite their many risks and harmful side effects, hormonal contraceptives exceed $24 billion in annual sales worldwide.
May we never tire of proclaiming the dignity and worth of every human life. May we never tire of serving the vulnerable and their caregivers with generous hearts. And may we never cease to pray for the day when all people, and all societies, will defend the life of every human from conception to natural death.
Our Lady of the Rosary. October 7
"It could be said that each mystery of the rosary, carefully meditated, sheds light on the mystery of human beings. 'Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you' (Ps 55:23).
To pray the rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful hearts of Christ and his Mother. The rosary does indeed 'mark the rhythm of human life,' bringing it into harmony with the 'rhythm' of God's own life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life's destiny and deepest longing." (Pope John Paul II)
THANK YOU!
Brothers and sisters, you are the most wonderful people and very generous in many ways to own Parish.
You showed your faith, hope and love last Sunday in your warm welcome to Bishop Richard Garcia and the BBQ in his honor.

Thank you! For the beautiful Deck of Generosity and for all the work you did every day for the community of Christ Child Parish.
Thank you! For all the work you did to make the BBQ and party last Sunday. Muchas Gracias.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 30, 2007
Amos condemns the complacency of the rich who seek only their own comfort.
In his parable about the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus echoes Amos, exhorting those who have to share with those have not.
Self-sufficiency must never blind us to the needs of others.
Only in this way do we keep God's commandments in integrity and in truth.
Welcome!
His Excellency the Most Reverend Richard J. Garcia
Fourth Bishop of Monterey in California
EN EL VIVIMOS
"Amongst those various offices which have been exercised in the Church from the earliest times the chief place, according to the witness of tradition, is held by the function of those who, through their appointment to the dignity and responsibility of bishop, and in virtue consequently of the unbroken succession going back to the beginning, are regarded as transmitters of the apostolic line."
As Christ's vicar, each bishop has the pastoral care of the particular Church entrusted to him, but at the same time he bears collegially with all his brothers in the episcopacy the solicitude for all the Churches: "Though each bishop is the lawful pastor only of the portion of the flock entrusted to his care, as a legitimate successor of the apostles he is, by divine institution and precept, responsible with the others bishops for the apostolic mission of the Church."
The ordained bishop ministers exercise their service for the People of God by teaching (munus docendi), divine worship (munus liturgicum) and pastoral governance (munus regendi).

Let everything that lives and that breathes give praise to the Lord. Alleluia! (Ps 150:6)
This biblical litany of praise is echoed in Saint Francis of Assisi's famous Canticle of the Sun. Saint Francis' love for creation was neither sentimental nor superficial. He understood in true humility what glory lies in being a creature of so great and loving a God. From that perspective, there is no greater joy than to give praise and thanks even for the gift of death.
Saint Francis, the "little poor man," chose no other wealth that to love and follow Christ in humble obedience, even to embracing the cross whose mark is bore.
October 4 Saint Francis of Assisi's Day!

The Deck of Generosity
God is very good to us.
You are very hard workers and contribute a lot to our Parish. Many of you have worked very hard to make the beautiful "deck".

God Bless you and your family!
TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 23, 2007
September 30, 2007 The Fourth Bishop of Monterey in California will be with us!
His Excellency The Most Reverend Richard J. García
Coat of Arms of Bishop García
The left side of the shield represents the Diocese of Monterey, and the right side Bishop García's personal symbols.
The symbols of the dioceses are a red field with a white mountain and a gold crown. These represent Monterey, Spanish for mountain of the king, name in honor of the Viceroy of New Spain in 1602. The colors red and gold are those of the viceroy's home regions of Leon and Castilla. The white is for the sands of Monterey's beaches. The gold cross of the Faith is between two mission bells, in honor of Father Junipero Serra, who founded the mission of San Carlos Borromeo in Monterey in 1770.
For his personal arms, His Excellency, Bishop García has selected a design that reflects the deep devotion of his California, Mexican and American heritage.
The main body of the design is a variant on the mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to whom Bishop García has a particular deep devotion. Here, on an azure field, is a scattering of no specific number of gold stars. Overall, at a point about one-third of the way up the shields, called "the nombril point," is a tied red sash. This belt is seen in the portrait of Our Lady and was a classic accessory for a woman who was with child, in the Nahualt (Indian) culture, at the time of Our Lady's appearance to Blessed Juan Diego. The belt indicated that Our Lady was carrying Our Divine Lord and that as His Mother, she was, and is, our Mother.
Above the belt, represented in the colors as they would appear in nature, (Proper) is a Golden Eagle as taken from the Mexican flag. This bird is of particular significance for Bishop García because he used "The Eagle" as the topic for his graduate dissertation, examining all of the place and ways the eagle is used in religious art and significance.
Motto
For his motto, His Excellency, Bishop García has selected the phrase "En El Vivimos." These words that are taken from the Acts of the Apostles 17:28 express the Bishop's deep belief that as Christians our lives are to be ordered in such a way that "For in him we live and move and have our being…" He, Christ, is to be our all and all we have is to be for Him, who is the Savior of the world.

Diocesan Choir Pilgrimage, Italy II
The Diocesan Choir was the Principal Choir for a Mass at St. Peter's in June 2005. They did such a beautiful job that the Vatican Director of Music invited Sr. Barbara and the choir to come back. And as a result, they will be making another Pilgrimage to Italy in June of 2008, Italy II. The trip will include visits to many sacred sites, formal Masses in Stresa, Bologna, Assisi and camaldoli and three concerts with Fr. Cyprian Consiglio in Assisi, Florence and Rome. One of the many highlights of Italy II will be a three-day retreat at the Monastery of St. Francis in Assisi, led by Bishop Ryan and Father Cyprian, entitled "The Universal Call to Contemplation and the Arts." Another jewel in the crown of Italy II will be the Diocesan Choir serving the as the Principal Choir at the 10:30 am on Sunday, June 22nd at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter's! You are invited to accompany the Choir, Bishop Ryan, and Father Cyprian on this Pilgrimage.
Please contact either Sister Barbara at the Office of Divine Worship, 831.423.4973,
[email protected] or Todd Corgill, 831.419.1287, [email protected] for a tour brochure or additional information
TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 16th, 2007
The Pharisees and scribes complain about Jesus, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
God uses the experience of our being lost like the sheep, the coin, and the son to demonstrate compellingly that "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners."
Christ welcomes sinners and eats with them because only that closeness with Christ's human presence changes sinners into saints.
To this Saint Paul attests: "I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and arrogant, but I have been mercifully treated…
The grace of our Lord has been abundant, along with faith and love."
"Christ came to save sinners"
"There will be great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents."

God found them in a wilderness, a wasteland of howling desert. He shielded them and cared for them, guarding them as the apple of his eye.
Dt 32: 10
No matter how far we stray and how lost we feel, God the Father are always right there waiting for us with open arms. We may feel sinful and unworthy of his love, but all we need to do is make a move toward him and he will run to meet us as his beloved sons and daughters. Let run to receive his love!

Prayer for Peace by Pope John XXIII
(Pont. 1958-1963)
Lord Jesus Christ, who is called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, "Peace to you," grant us peace.
Make all men and women witnesses of the truth, justice, and brotherly love.
Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace.
Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace.
May all the peoples of the earth become as brothers and sisters.
May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.
TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 9, 2007
Who can comprehend the Lord's ways or conceive what the Lord intends?
True wisdom leads us to acknowledge our limitations (a matter of "calculation") and our idols of materialism as we seek to follow the Lord without reservation.
True discipleship calls us to forgive those who have wronged us.
May we gain the wisdom of heart to discern more fully our call to take up the cross of Jesus.

As proof that you are children, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. (Gal 4:6-7)
We are either servants of God or slaves of evil. There is no middle ground. This does not mean that as servants of Christ we are with out fault, but that we have allied ourselves with him and accepted his redemption. Let us not be ashamed to be servants of Christ for in his love he has purchased us a great price.

September 2, 2007
Humbling Oneself
We are to humbly serve the needs of others.
An ancient teacher once asked his pupils how to tell when the night had ended and the day was on the way back.
"Could it be," asked one student, "when you can see an animal in the distance and can tell whether it is a sheep or dog?"
"No, said the teacher.
"Could it be," asked another, "when you can look at a tree and tell whether it is a fig tree or a peach tree?"
"No," answered the teacher.
"Well, then is it?" demanded his pupils.
"It is when you look on the face of any woman or any man and see that she or he is your sister or brother. Because if you cannot do this, no matter what time it is, it is still night."
Loving others in action on a daily basis is what light up the world. Do we put ourselves at the service of others? How?

The Next Generation
The greatest legacy that we can leave to our children is that we have kept faith with God. In the midst of eroding values, we need to hand off to the next generation a history of God keeping covenant with Catholic Church.
We must, by faith, finish acquiring and building the land, leaving a thriving church to proclaim the goodness and salvation of our great God.
"That the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God…" Psalms 78:6-7

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
August 26, 2007
The Kingdom of God
We enter heaven through a narrow gate, not a broad pathway.
There's legendary fisherman down in Louisiana who catches lots of fish. One day a stranger came to his cabin on the bayou and asked him if he would take him fishing. As they got into the boat, the stranger noticed the famous fisherman had no rod or reel – just an old rusty tackle box and a net.
After a while, they came into an insolated cove surrounded by tall, massive oaks draped with Spanish moss. The stranger watched with interest as the fisherman reached down into the tackle box, pulled out a stick of dynamite, lit the fuse, and threw it into the water.
There was a muffed explosion followed by the surfacing of a number of dead fish, which the fisherman proceeded to scoop up with his net. Whereupon the stranger pulled out a big badge and announced, "I caught you. I'm the game warden. You know it's illegal to blow up fish!"
The notorious fisherman didn't bat an eye. He calmly reached down into his tackle box, pulled out another stick of dynamite, lit the fuse, and handed it to the game warden. "Well," he asked the stunned warden, "are you gonna fish or you gonna just sit there?"
Would Jesus say to us, "You just gonna sit there?" Would he recognize us as working to establish the Kingdom of God?

STEWARDSHIP
Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed.
Hebrews 12:13
The words "discipline" and "disciple" both come from the Latin word meaning "to learn.' To learn the way of discipleship, to walk in Christ's footsteps, we must be prepared to face the disciplines that make learning possible. Sometimes we will need to be corrected, lest we go astray on destructive paths. God's corrections are acts of love for he does not want ever to lose us.

TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
August 19, 2007
The Lord came to the aid of Jeremiah whose preaching brought upon him rejection and ill-treatment.
For those who take the gospel seriously, misunderstanding and division must likewise be expected.
Like Christ, we must never grow despondent or abandon the struggle to proclaim and live the truth.
Jesus Has Come to Light a Fire on Earth
The fourth graders were studying the Pilgrims coming to America and settling in New England. The teacher asked, "Why did the Puritans leave England for American?" A pupil immediately raised his hand and answered: "So that they could carry on their religion in freedom in their own way, and force others to do the same."
Application: Is our faith a fire burning within? Would others know we are Christian by observing us day to day?
Jesus said to you: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!" Luke 12:49

In honor Saint Jean-Baptiste Marie Vianney, was born in Lyons in 1786. After overcoming many difficulties, he was ordained a priest. He was entrusted with a parish in the town of Ars in the diocese of Belley. He cared for this parish in a marvelous way by his preaching, his mortification, prayer, and good work. Since he was renowned for great skill in helping penitents, people came to him from many regions and devoutly accepted his counsels. He died in 1859.
Patron of priests and the parish clergy.
AUGUST 9 Are the anniversaries of the atomic explosions over Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945). As these events are recalled, all are urged to continue to pray for world peace.

Current Comment
A Great Mystery
Few ecclesiastical procedures are as misunderstood as the annulment process. Many Catholics find it difficult to believe that the church can declare a marriage "null" after a couple has been married and, in some cases, had children together. Recent reports that the annulment of Joseph P. Kennedy's marriage was reversed by the Vatican will only further muddy the waters.
Kennedy, the son of the later Robert F. Kennedy, was granted an annulment in 1993 after he separated from his first wife, Sheila Rauch. The couple had been married for 12 years and had two children together. Rauch mounted a campaign to reverse the annulment, publishing a book (Shattered Faith) strongly criticizing the annulment process, claiming that Kennedy had used his family's influence to obtain the decree. The Vatican apparently reversed its decision in 2005, but Rauch was not notified until May of this year, after the document had been translated from Latin.
Contrary to a common misconception about annulments, the granting of an annulment does not mean that a wedding never took place or that children born of a union are illegitimate. Rather, an annulment is a declaration that according to church law, the marriage was not a sacramental union because certain essential elements were not present. Unfortunately, many people believe that money and influence play a decisive role in the granting of annulments.
The annulment process is necessarily a private one, dealing in the intimate details of a couple's life together, so it is difficult to assess how these decisions are arrived at in particular cases. Nonetheless, it seems clear that the church needs to do a better job explaining how annulments are obtained. For too many Catholic the process remains a great mystery.
Lord JESUS, I hope to follow you each day of my life.
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Abraham, the just and upright man, graciously hosts three visitors. STEWARDSHIP
Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels. (Heb 13:2)
Hospitality was considered a sacred obligation in biblical times, as Abraham's generous behavior clearly shows. What kind of hospitality do we offer? The quality of our hospitality to others is likely to reflect the quality of our hospitality to Christ, whether we receive him in others, in prayer, in the Liturgy of the Word, or in Holy Communion. Consider the hospitality he has shown to us at the Eucharistic table!

JAMES THE APOSTLE (25 July)
Dear Lord, your disciple James longed for a special place in your reign, a place close to you. You dad a special affection for him: you took him with you when you entered the house of Jairus to heal his daughter and when you went up to Mount Tabor to pray.
When you asked him if he could drink the cup of suffering, he said yes with the same ambition with which he desired a special place in your reign.
You loved this young, zealous man whose main desire was to be with you at al times and in all places. You told him and all your disciples that service, not power, was the standard in your reign, and slowly you changed his heart from one set on influence into one searching for the deepest place. He responded, followed you, and drank the same cup you drank. He became one of the first apostles to die for you.
O Lord, convert my heart as you converted the heart of your disciple James. Amen.

The great commandment of LOVE is not something "mysterious" or "remote." Indeed, it is "very near" to us. Yet how difficult it is to fulfill, being neighbor to whomever is in need. But if we seek God, we must "go and do the same", for we have been created in, for, and through Christ.

Summer Vacation from Church?
We hear people talking about taking the summer off from church. Here are a few questions for your reflection.
-Would you stop eating for the summer?
-Would you stop talking or sharing with your family and friends?
-Think about what happens when you stop a healthy exercise and diet program for three months. It's hard to start over again.
-Please make a special effort this summer to build your spiritual muscles...
If you miss a week your donation can be mailed to the parish office at 23230 Summit Road, Los Gatos, CA 95033. Thank you.

Prophetic People Living and Speaking the Truth
How is it that people come to be the way that they are? What can we do to shape the character of the people we care about in the time we spend with them? A look at what moral development tells us about how character is formed from values, thoughts and skills. Ho can we be prophetic in our encounter with the children, youth and adults we care about in the formation in faith of their character, and our own?
FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
July 8, 2007
Let us boast of nothing but the cross of Christ.
Through it his grace and power are made known to his servants.
Tremendous deeds shall be performed in his name; the reign of God is proclaimed, peace is given as gift, and the forces of sin are overcome.
A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit
I acknowledge my transgression, say King David. If I admit my fault, then you will pardon it. Let us never assume that if we live good lives we will be without sin; our lives should be praised only when we continue to beg for pardon. But human being are hopeless creatures, and the less they become in the sins of others. They seek to criticize, not to correct. Unable to excuse themselves, they are ready to accuse others. This was not the way that King David showed us how to pray and make amends to God, when he said: I acknowledge my transgression, and my sin is ever before me. He did not concentrate on others' sins; he turned his thoughts upon himself. He did not spare himself, and therefore was not impudent in asking to be spared.
Do you want God to be appeases? Learn what you are to do that God may be pleased with you. Consider the psalm said: A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; God does not despise a contrite and humble heart. Cast aside your former offerings, for now you have found out what you are to offer.
My sins, O Lord, have pierced me through like arrows; but before they wound me, heal me, O God, with the ointment of repentance. Create a clean heart in me, O God.

I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners. (Mt 9:13)
An overly formalistic approach to religion draws us away from God and makes the ritual into our god rather than the one whom the ritual is meant to honor. If we believe that we are righteous, we leave no place for salvation and mercy. Let us rather boast in nothing but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

July 11 BENEDICT, Abbot
Saint Benedict was born at Nursia in Umbria about the year 480. Educated at Rome, he began the eremitic life at Subiaco where he gathered disciples, and then departed for Monte Casino. There he established the famous monastery and composed the Benedictine Rule.
"Let them put Christ before all else; and may he lead us all too everlasting life."
We are called to s radical break away from ourselves and a total surrender to God. St. Benedict, who so often is praised for his moderation and has even been called a humanist, is no less radical when he speaks about humility, obedience, and having everything in common.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JULY 1, 2007
Today Jesus "resolutely determines to journey to Jerusalem."
He uses his human freedom to follow the path that leads to his death.
"You were called for freedom. For freedom Christ set us free." Freedom is the experience of the deepest truth of ourselves; it is the capacity to confront our destiny; it is the capacity for our happiness.
That is why Elisha's act of burning his plowing equipment to cook up his oxen is a perfect act of freedom: by freeing himself to follow the prophet Elijah, Elisha can reach the meaning of his life. Freedom is humble, passionate, total dedication to God in our daily life. It is to our freedom that Jesus appeals when he says to us, "follow me" as he follow his own human freedom all the way to the fulfillment of his Father's will.

Let your every creature serve you; for you spoke, and they were made. (Jdt 16:14)
God has created us for the freedom in Jesus Christ. But that freedom is not for ourselves alone. Rather we are to use our freedom to worship God and do good for others. Any "freedom" that does not lead us to serve God and our neighbor is not really freedom at all, but bondage to self-will and sin.

THOMAS THE APOSTLE July 3
During a dialogue homily, two of the monks remarked in different ways that although Thomas did not believe in the resurrection of the Lord, he kept faithful to the community of the apostles. In that community the Lord appeared to him and strengthened his faith. In find this very profound and consoling thought. In times of doubt or unbelief, the community can "carry you along,' so to speak; it can even offer on your behalf what you yourself overlook, and can be the context in which you may recognize the lord again.
John Eudes remarked that Dydimus, the name of Thomas, means "twin," as the Gospel says, and that the fathers had commented that all of us are "two people," a doubting one and a believing one. We need the support and love of our brothers and sisters to prevent our doubting person from becoming dominant and destroying our capacity for belief.

THE NATIVITY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
June 24, 2007
John's birth is foretold. Called from birth by God as a prophet to the nations, John proclaimed a divine favor in which we now share. John matured in the Spirit and heralded the advent of the Messiah.
This feast, dating from the 4th century in both East and West, came to be celebrated, in accord with Luke 1:36, six months before the Lord's birth; quoting the gospel of John 3:30, Augustine found this date (near the summer solstice) appropriate for, after the birth of John, daylight begins to grow shorter, whereas after Jesus' birth, it begins to increase.
The Birth of John the Baptist
Patience dispels clock time and reveals a new time, the time of salvation. It is not the time measured by the abstract, objective units of the clock, the watch, or the calendar, but rather the time lived from within and experienced as full time. It is this full time about which Scripture speak. All the great events of the Gospels occur in the fullness of time. A literal translation from the Greek shows this clearly: When the time for Elizabeth had become full she bore her son John (Luke 1:57)…
It is this full time, pregnant with new life, which can be found through the discipline of patience. As long as we are the slaves of the clock and the calendar, our time remains empty and nothing really happens. Thus, we miss the moment of grace and salvation. But when patience prevents us from running from the painful moment in the false hope of finding our treasure elsewhere, we can slowly begin to see that the fullness of time is already here and that salvation is already taking place.

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
June 17, 2007
David acknowledges his sin and experiences the Lord forgiveness.
The sinful woman is forgiven by Jesus because of her great love.
He loves us and gave himself up for us.
"God loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins." (1 Jn 4:10b)
The Eucharist: Jesus the true sacrificial lamb
The new and eternal covenant in the blood of the Lamb.
The mission for which Jesus came among us was accomplished in the Paschal Mystery. On the Cross from which he draws all people to himself, just before "giving up the Spirit," he utters the words: "it is finished" (John 19:30).
In the mystery of Christ's obedience unto death, even death on a Cross, the new and eternal covenant was brought about. In his crucified flesh, God's freedom and our human freedom met definitively in an inviolable, eternally valid pact. Human sin was also redeemed once for all by God's Son. As I have said elsewhere, "Christ's death on the Cross is the culmination of that turning of God against himself in which he gives himself in order to raise man up and save him. This is love in its most radical form. In the Paschal Mystery, our deliverance from evil and death has taken place.
Instituting the Eucharist, Jesus had spoken of the "new and eternal covenant" in the shedding of his blood. This, the ultimate purpose of his mission, was clear from the very beginning of his public life. Indeed, when, on the banks of the Jordan, John the Baptist saw Jesus coming towards him, he cried out: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).
It is significant that these same words are repeated at every celebration of Holy Mass, when the priest invites us to approach the altar: "This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper."
Jesus is the true paschal lamb who freely gave himself in sacrifice for us, and thus brought about the new and eternal covenant.
The Eucharist contains this radical newness, which is offered to us again at every celebration.
(Sacramentum Caritatis of the Holy Father Benedict XVI)

God Bless All Fathers
June 17 is Father's Day! Please take some time to remember your own father as well as all the father figures in your life.
Do you know the History of Father's Day?
I recently read an article which said…Mother's Day was just beginning to gather widespread attention in the United States in 1909, when Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, of Spokane, Washington, heard a sermon on the merits of setting aside a day to honor one's mother. She had the idea to petition for a day to honor fathers, and in particular, her own father, William Jackson Smart, who had raised her and her five siblings by himself, after her mother died in childbirth. With support from the Spokane Ministerial Association and the YMCA, her effort paid off, and on June 19, 1910, the first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST SUNDAY
June 10, 2007
Melchizedek, priest of God Most High, offers bread and wine as a blessing upon Abram.
Jesus fulfills this offering, giving us his own body and blood under the forms of bread and wine.
Thus is our hunger satisfied in abundance as we make our pilgrim way to the heavenly banquet feast.
"The Lord fed his people with the finest wheat and honey; their hunger was satisfied."
(Psalm 81:17)
The sacrament of charity, the Holy Eucharist is the gift that Jesus Christ makes of himself, thus revealing to us God's infinite love for every man and woman. This wondrous sacraments makes manifest that "greater" love which led him to "lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13) Jesus did indeed love them "to the end" (John 13:1).
The food of truth
In the sacrament of the altar, the Lord meets us, men and women created in God's image and likeness, and become our companion along the way. In this sacrament, the Lord truly becomes food for us, to satisfy our hunger for truth and freedom. Since only the truth can make us free. Christ becomes for us the food of truth. With deep human insight, Saint Augustine clearly showed how we are moved spontaneously, and not by constraint, whenever we encounter something attractive and desirable. Asking him what it is that can move us most deeply, the saintly bishop
went on to say: "what does our soul desire more passionately than truth?" Each of us has an innate and irrepressible desire for ultimate and definitive truth. The Lord Jesus, "the way, and the truth, and the life," speaks to our thirsting, pilgrim hearts, our hearts yearning for the source of life, our hearts longing for truth. Jesus Christ is the Truth in person, drawing the world to himself. "Jesus is the lodestar of human freedom: without him, freedom loses its focus, for without the knowledge of truth, freedom becomes debased, alienated and reduce to empty caprice. With him freedom finds itself."
In the sacrament of Eucharist, Jesus shows us in particular the truth about the love which is the very essence of God. It is this evangelical truth which challenges each of us and our whole being. For this reason, the Church, which finds in the Eucharist the very centre of her life, is constantly concerned to proclaim to all, opportune importune, that God is love. Precisely because Christ has become for us the food of truth, the Church turns to every man and woman, inviting them freely to accept God's gift.

TRINITY SUNDAY
June 3, 2007
We are at peace with GOD our FATHER through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
GOD's love has been poured into our hearts through the HOLY SPIRIT.
The SPIRIT, who is Wisdom itself, will lead us into all truth.
How wonderful the name of our GOD in all the earth.
A Disciple's Prayer
How easy to believe that I am an instrument of your love when my life is going well, O God. How difficult to believe this when my life seems to be going nowhere, or is filled with many concerns and activities that wear me out. Yet, you greatly desire to proclaim your goodness through every part of my life, no matter what the situation is.
I do not need to have good feelings in order to be an instrument of your love. I do not need to always feel satisfied with what I am attempting to be and to do in order to be a disciple of yours. It is the intention of my heart that makes the difference. Deep within I long for you and I give myself to your cause. I place my heart in yours and enter as fully as I can into your loving embrace.
I am your messenger, ready to tell of your enormous kindness and mercy. I will trust in you. I believe that those with whom I live and work will see your love shining through all I am and all I do. It is your radiance within me that will transform the bits and pieces of my life into a tapestry of ardent devotion. Thank you for being present in my life and for calling to me with your gracious voice of unconditional love. Amen.

PENTECOST SUNDAY
May 27, 2007
All of us have been baptized into one and the same Spirit, and live by that same Spirit.
That same Spirit, the Advocate, was given as gift to the disciples to remind them of all that Jesus said and did, and to strengthen them to go forth in the name of the Lord, "to renew the face of the earth".
Spirituality as Personal and Communal
When Jesus walked this earth, he called a group of disciples to follow him. And as soon as each disciple personally accepted that call, he immediately found himself part of a group. The personal and individual experience of following Jesus almost immediately became communal. It became "Church", or "Ecclesia," or the "Gathering' of people around their Lord.
After three short and exciting years together, Jesus left his disciples and went to the cross. But the first Christians still continued as a community. As Chapter 24 of Luke tells us, before the discovery of the Resurrection, the followers of Jesus were assembled in one place. And after Jesus' Ascension into heaven, they were frequently together in the Temple.
The Book of Acts, also written by Luke, describes how this ragtag group of followers gradually became a more cohesive fellowship. They gather together in the Upper Room, the place where the first Eucharist was instituted and celebrated by Jesus. They were together before and during the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Today, Jesus calls each one of us both to himself and to his body, his community, his Church. When we enter the sanctuary to worship God, we are not alone. Many of God's children are in the room with us, and some of them people who because of their social, cultural, racial, or ethnic differences from us aren't the kinds of people we would typically associate with. But here they are with us, worshiping God together and revealing the awesome diversity of the family of God.
Some of us are raised in Christian families, through which we are baptized as infants and brought into a faith community at an early age. Others grow up without hearing about God but make an adult decision to follow Christ. Either way, sooner or later each one of us must make a personal decision about our faith in Jesus and our personal relationship with him. But as soon as we do this, we immediately find ourselves with a group-a community of people who have made that same individual choice to follow Jesus. Thus, our personal and individual faith in Jesus becomes a communal experience as well.

ASCENSION OF THE LORD
May 20, 2007
Jesus commissions his disciples to baptize in his name, reminding them that he is always present through his Spirit. Jesus ascended to his Father amid cries of gladness, entering into the heavenly sanctuary. We are to be his witnesses, mindful of the great hope to which we are called.
Dear faith family,
In the eco of the Mother's Day; mothers share a special union with their children. From the first moment of life, the child in the womb depends on the mother for everything it will receive and all it will be in this period of development. Once born, the child depends on continuing unity with the mother, sharing in times of weakness and in strength. The child then grows in relying on others and uniting with others.
As children of God, we recognize that we have union and an opportunity to grow deeper with the One who gives us creation.
Mystics describe transforming union with God as "Oneing with God." One of the reasons we gather each Sunday at Mass is to bring ourselves into that union, not especially as individuals but as a community.
An ancient teaching (The Didache) describes our Sunday gathering as "the bread broken" (which) "was first scattered on the hills, then was gathered and became one." Or, we can simply say that we gather in order to become the Body of Christ. Conforming ourselves to that Body, then, is not only a human but a divine purpose. How can we bring ourselves into such conformity?
We enter church with individual needs, personal sorrows, regrets, anxieties, and joys. Although each need is different, they're all the same. The commonality of our lives is what we celebrate. It is through our shared actions of posture and gesture, our voices rose as one in prayer and song that we do become the Christ who lives in each of us, the spirit of Christ who lives and breathes in our community. It doesn't happen without care and attention to what we are doing.
A first step might be this: the next time you come to Mass, pay special attention, not only to the readings, but to the prayers. Listen and be attentive to the prayers as they are spoken by your neighbors. Pray with them, the same rhythm, pace, volume and inflection. Don't speed ahead or lag behind. Let their intent be your intent, as theirs will be yours.
Living near the Monterey Bay as we do, it's easy to imagine the rhythm, motion and power of the waves as they surge toward and away from the shore, the rhythmic breath of God's creation. This is what praying together as one voice means. This is what praying together as one voice means. This is what listening to the voice within means. It is a giant step toward transformation of the many into the One. As we pray, so we become.
With prayer for you and your
Family this Easter season, the
Liturgy Committee of Dioceses.

The Mother of God
Mother of God, you cared for and nurtured the divine life within you, --may I daily do the same through faithfulness to prayer and virtuous action.
Mother of God, you experienced the pain of contractions as you birthed the Holy One, --
May I have the courage to bear the pains of my inner growth.
Mother of God, you found kinship with your pregnant cousin, Elizabeth, -- may I recognize the Elizabeth's who sustain and encourage me.
Mother of God, you felt the child within you stirring and kicking, -- may I deepen my awareness of God's stirrings in the midst of my life.
Mother of God, when the divine child pushed forth from your womb he uttered his first cry, -- may I believe in the goodness within me that is yet to resound.
Mother of God, the newly born child in your arms engendered awe, mystery, and wonder, -- may I, too, reverence and be awed by the way that the Divine One enters my life.
In Mary the Mother of God; Congratulation all the MOTHERS in our Parish, and we pray for you, because you said YES to life!

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
May 6, 2007
Amen! Alleluia!
Easter Season: Risen One, open our minds and hearts.
Let us see and welcome your presence.
+ The their eyes were opened, and they recognized him (Lk 24:31)
All around me Easter is happening. God continues to reveal love, to extend invitations to growth, to offer me hope. What is God's latest revelation to me? How has this changed my life?
+ Jesus said to them, "come and have breakfast" (Jn 21:12)
Jesus invited the disciples to come and to be nourished with food that he had prepared. What food do I accept and what do I reject?
+ "He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him" (Mt 28:7)
Galilee… the place of much action and healing during the ministry of Jesus. I have my own Galilee. It is there that I will see the Risen One. Is there anything I need to change or adapt so that I will more readily recognize the Holy One in my life?
+ "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" (Lk 24:5)
The question asked by the messenger of God to those who peered into the empty tomb can also be my question. I may also be looking for life in the wrong places, in old issues or things of the past which I need to let go. Where am I looking for life?
+ Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "peace be with you" (Lk 24:36)
As Jesus came among them he recognized the fear and disbelief that filled his followers' hearts. He greeted them with "Peace." How will I greet myself and my world with peace during the Easter season?

May Month of Mary the Mother of God
Mother of God, you risked saying yes to being pregnant with the seed of the Holy One, may I also overcome my fears and take the risks that spiritual growth requires of me.
Mother of God, you offered the hospitality of your womb as a dwelling place for the Holy One, may I continually open the womb of my heart to all who need a welcome there.
Mother of God, you awaited the long nine months of the child's gestation, may I wait patiently when spiritual growth seems to come far too slowly.
Mother of God, you did not know how the birth of your child would affect your life, may I trust in God's presence to protect and guide me when I face uncertainty.
SECOND COLLECTIONS FOR MAY 2007
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Monterey invites your participation in our Annual Appeal: May 19 & 20. Providing help and creating hope for 25,000 families a year starts with your commitment. Social Justice is not a description of a "state of affairs" it is the action of righting wrongs. It is the sum of each act of Christian Compassion. When Catholic Charities intervenes to help a family threatened by eviction or by utility disconnection, we are echoing your voice: "we won't let you suffer!"
Your one-time gift of $200 will keep the power turned on for one family who cannot pay or $50 a month will allow a young mother to get the counseling she needs when a child is called to heaven too early. Please show your "Compassion through Commitment" by pledging support to Catholic Charities. FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
April 29, 2007
The Lord Working Through Us
God is always and everywhere near to man. But to man by himself, his presence is inaccessible, blocked off. God alone can open up this channel. We believe he did this. The presence of the Father was all around Jesus. The Father was completely open with him, one with him in infinity of love. We have listened to the words whence this presence can be heard speaking out. Heaven surrounded Jesus, the accessible presence of the Father.
And Jesus has brought this presence to us. We know that the Father loves us in Jesus. We have confidence in the grace of his love for us; we know that his eyes see us, his heart is turned toward us, and his hand leads us. We believe that heaven is around us.
However, one thing is missing: we do not feel the presence of God. It is still closed off, from our side. It is closed off by what we ourselves are: by the heaviness of our imprisoned being; by the slothfulness and dullness of our hearts; by the evil that is in us. Heaven would be here entire if God opened up his presence to us, and at the same tine opened up men's hearts so they could feel this presence.
Perhaps it can be said that heaven is on its way to us as long as we do not keep it at a distance by our own actions. I believe it is no fantasy or delusion to think this way: that our whole Christian life consists in having heaven continually striving to catch up with us, close in on us. Every Christian act, belief, love, sacrifice, struggle, every perseverance, and courageous performance – all these things make possible the approach of him who desires only to come forward. But all coldness, indifference, slothfulness, weakness, pride, covetousness – everything that sin is called- force him back bars the road to him. And heaven fights. Heaven wants to come to us. For heaven is only God's love come home.
What a tremendous thought it is: heaven on the way to meet me, relentlessly advancing toward me and God's eyes is upon me. And to think of the mightiness of the will behind it! The monumental strength of that desire!

Effective 2007, every person wishing to deduct contributions to a parish on his or her tax return must have either a bank record or a written acknowledgement from the parish in order to claim a deduction for the donation.
How to ensure that you meet the New Requirements:
There are a number of ways to ensure that your contributions meet the new IRS recordkeeping requirements.
Use Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT). This allows you to have a banking record showing your contribution. The parish will also provide you with a written acknowledgement of your gifts at the end of the year.
Use parish envelopes for your contributions.
Use checks for your charitable donations. Using a check gives you a banking record for your contributions.

Peter the fisherman –and fisher of people- is put to a strange and difficult test today. First, the Lord Jesus directs him and the others how and where to fish. They succeed greatly- a Messiah catch for Messiah nourishment.
Then Simon Peter is asked three times "Do you love me?" He answers wholeheartedly, a Jesus says, "Follow me!"
We, too, seek Messiah Eucharist. With Pete, can we answer wholeheartedly to the 'Follow me," "Fish for people" of Christ Jesus?

Saint of the Week:
April 23: GEORGE

April 25: MARK, Evangelist
Mark died first century, cousin of Barnabas, associated with Paul and Peter; the gospel ascribed to him is the oldest (written probably prior to the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD) and shortest; largely a collection of narrative that depict Jesus as being almost constantly active; presents Jesus as the Son of God whose ministry was marked by a series of mighty works, signs of God's power and kingdom; tradition holds Mark the first bishop of Alexandria; portrayed as a winged lion according Ezekiel charter 1; patron of Egypt, Venice, and of notaries.

Stewardship and Your Will
"As generous distributors of God's manifold grace, put your gifts at the service of one another." (Peter 4:10)
Effective Planning! Short term planning is easier less time consuming, but planning for the long term can be beneficial, too. Effective estate planning now can benefit you, your heirs, charity and help to avoid difficulties that can arise when an estate is not properly planned.
First and foremost, as a good steward, you must make sure that you have a valid and up to date Christian Will.
Did you know that more than 60% of the adult population in America dies without a will? Many people spend lifetimes building up their estates and accumulating property but fail to develop a plan to distribute their worldly blessings.
If you die without a valid will, the state in which you reside has a predetermined formula for the court to distribute the assets of your estate to you heirs regardless of your intent or relationship with them.
A valid will allow your loved one to.
Remember, God is never outdone in generosity to each and every one of us.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 15, 2007
The Eucharist: Jesus the true Sacrificial Lamb
The new and eternal covenant in the blood of the Lamb
The mission for whom Jesus came among us was accomplished in the Paschal Mystery. On the Cross from which he draws all people to himself (John 19:30). This is love in its most radical form." In the Paschal Mystery, our deliverance from evil and death has taken place.
In instituting the Eucharist, Jesus had spoken of the "new and eternal covenant" in the shedding of his blood (Mark 14:24). Happy are those who are called to his supper." Jesus is the true paschal lamb who freely gave himself in sacrifice for us, and thus brought about the new and eternal covenant. The Eucharist contains this radical newness, which is offered to us again at every celebration.

EASTER SEASON The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or better, as one "great Sunday"
Josef Pieper once remarked that the human capacity for festivity arises from the ability to affirm all creation as good –from the ability to embrace, in one resounding "yes," the length and breath, the heights and depths of our experience in this world. We can hear this yes in Mozart's music- the play of light and shadow in the later piano concerti; the poignant song of an oboe rising above a steady pulse in a divertimento for winds. We can hear it in the delighted squeals of a child as its face is licked by the moist tongue and hot breath of a new puppy. We can hear it in the contented, prayerful whispers of an elderly woman-full of love, grace and years-as she prepares to meet death with quiet courage and dignity.
Saying yes to all of life, letting all of it in that is festivity's sustaining source. But there's the rub. Few of us can say yes to anything for very long. We live, after all, in an intensely mobile culture of fast food, faster cars, disposable diapers and planned obsolescence. Our greatest goal is to be famous for fifteen minutes…
Given such cultural conditions, the Christian celebration of fifty days of "dwelling in" the paschal mystery! Fifty days of surrendering in joyful faith and love as the Spirit of God takes possession of our lives! Fifty days of mystagogy, of walking with the neophytes ever more deeply into baptismal mysteries of death and resurrection. Good heavens! What an order! Christian festival it is a time of intensified consciousness, finely turned awareness, awakened memory; an invitation to explore more deeply "the weather of the heart," to awaken our memory of God's presence and power in creation.
Easter Season is a season for learning how to say yes in a culture that wants to keep on saying no.
ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!
PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD'S PASSION
April 1, 2007
"Let us go to Jerusalem"
Jerusalem weaves its way through the Biblical story. It is mentioned frequently in our liturgy and is cited often in traditional hymns. There is something both magical and tragic about that special place. Jerusalem remains in the world's consciousness not only as a touch point for pain and conflict, but also as an extremely important symbol for the Christian tradition, especially its focus on hope and resurrection.
This city, of course, is sacred to three great Abrahamic religions. It is sacred to Judaism, obviously, as its religious center and its capital under the monarchy. It is also the place where the Temple was established. David brought the Ark there to augment his royal authority, and then under Solomon the Temple was built on the top of Mount Zion, the modest mountain that stands in the center of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is very important for Islam, too. In the life of Mohammed, there is a very important incident where in a dream sequence, the Prophet is taken on a great steed to the city of Jerusalem and, in a mystical experience, foresees his ascent to God. On the top of the Temple Mount, there is presently the El Aksa mosque –which in Arabic means "the furthest place," tat is, the end point of his night journey, which commemorates this experience in Mohammed's life.
Finally, Jerusalem was also obviously important for Christianity, Christianity adopts the history of Israel as its own history through the Old Testament. And, of course, Jesus was a Jew and was thoroughly formed in the spirit and history of his people, including a love for Jerusalem and its sacred Temple.
In the Bible Jerusalem stands as a metaphor for the human condition as seen through the eyes of faith. All of the ups and downs, the pains and hopes of human history are painfully close to the surface in Jerusalem. Jerusalem symbolizes the strange mixture that each of us, of dreams and pain.
The reality of the city also reminds us that we are not a people who live in isolation but are called to live in community with each other.
In Christian history, Jerusalem has become a symbol of heaven, a symbol of life beyond death, to enter into the New Jerusalem.
Jerusalem today continues to be a city both of tears and of hope.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
March 25, 2007
The Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation
We know that the faithful are surrounded by a culture that tends to eliminate the sense of sin and to promote a superficial approach that overlooks the need to be in a state of grace in order to approach sacramental communion worthily. The loss of a consciousness of sin always entails certain superficiality in the understanding of God's love. Bringing out the elements within the rite of Mass that express consciousness of personal sin and, at the same time, of God's mercy, can prove most helpful to the faithful.
Furthermore, the relationship between the Eucharist and the sacrament of Reconciliation reminds us that sin is never a purely individual affair; it always damages the ecclesial communion that we have entered through Baptism. For this reason, Reconciliation, as the Father of the Church would say, is laborious quid am baptisms; they thus emphasized that the outcome of the process of conversion is also the restoration of full ecclesial communion, expressed in a return to the Eucharist.
Some pastoral concerns:
Promoting with catechesis on the conversion born of the Eucharist, and of encouraging frequent confession among the faithful.
In this regard, it is important that the confessionals in our churches should be clearly visible expressions of the importance of this sacrament…

HOLY WEEK
During Holy Week, we walk with Jesus, we suffer with him, we die with him, and finally we rise again: new creatures, brought deeply into the joy of redemption and new life now, and, we pray, forever.
On these days, we are offered a gift: Biblical symbols and liturgical gestures that help us to enter into the salvific events of Jesus' death and resurrection. We don't just watch, but we participate in each of them as we strive to follow Christ more closely.
The central events of the Easter Triduum, and of the Christian faith, are called the Paschal Mystery: Jesus' Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension into heaven. Paschal recalls the Hebrew Passover, which commemorates God's deliverance of Israel from Egypt, For Christian God's plan for salvation with Jesus Christ.

Carrying the Cross
+On those days when life seems too demanding with all its cares, burdens, and concerns…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When we experience great loneliness deep inside and the pain of separation fills our spirit…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When we feel the pain of our world and unite in compassion with the Earth's suffering people…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When we struggle with decision-making and the time comes to make good choices about our lives…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When we are with others in their physical pain or when we vigil with one who has a terminal illness…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When we harbor old wounds and are called to offer or to receive forgiveness…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.
+When worries and concerns choke our peacefulness and leave us with anxiety and
fear…Jesus, grant us strength to carry our cross.By Joyce Rupp

The Hidden Treasure
Lost and Found
Lord, sometimes I think your heart is one big room of lost and found, holding dear the timeless treasures that I've lost through selfishness.
Let me look into your heart, Lord.
Is my care for hurting ones there? (I gave it away to concerns of my own) Are my thanks for life and beauty there? (I lost it between some busy days)
Let me look deeper into your heart, Lord.
Is the faith I felt so keenly there? (I misplaced it one untrusting day) Is my willingness to be open there? (I hid it too long and now can't find it)
Is some of the truth of my self there? (I stopped looking for it some time ago) Is my deep hunger for you waiting there? (I lost it for food of material things)
Lord, you hold all that I value most; it's there in the depths of your heart. Please look into your lost and found: help me find the best of what I've lost, to discover the values I've misplaced and some of the treasures I've tossed away.

See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and late rains. (Jas 5:7)
This chosen people bore as little fruit as the fig tree in today's Gospel, but God's patience always outran, and still outruns, human waywardness. Again and again, he forgives where a human being would destroy against hope that we will repent and bear the sweet fruit of Gospel living in the vineyard of this world.
"If I am worthy, I am ready also to give up my life, without hesitation and most willingly, for his name. I want to spend myself in that country, even in death, if the Lord should grant me this favor. I am deeply in his debt, for he gave me the great grace that through me many people should be reborn in God…'

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
March 4, 2007
THE EMBRACE OF LOVE
As Father, the only authority he claims for himself is the authority of compassion.
The authority comes from letting the sins of his children pierce his heart. There is no lust, greed, anger, resentment, jealousy, or vengeance in his lost children that has not caused immense grief to his heart. The grief is so deep because the heart is so pure. From the deep inner place where love embraces all human grief, the Father reaches out to his children. The touch of his hands, radiating inner light, seeks only to heal.
Here is the God I want to believe in: a Father who, from the beginning of creation, has stretched out his arms in merciful blessing, never forcing himself on anyone, but always hoping that his children will return so that he can speak words of love to them and let his tired arms rest on their shoulders. His only desire is to bless.
-The Return of the Prodigal Son
Fr. Henri J.M. Nouwen +1996
"If we look forward to receiving God's mercy, we can never fail to do good so long as we have the strength. For if we share with the poor, out of love for God, whatever he has given to us, we shall receive according to his promise a hundredfold in eternal happiness."
From a letter by Saint John of God, formed the Order of Hospitallers 1550.

LENT 2007 Bring Your Cross to JESUS
Every one of us should make their own cross and bring this cross to Jesus on the Saturday or Sunday masses of Lent.
Remembers Jesus carrying the cross for all of us.
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
February 25, 2007
We begin our Lenten journey in a spirit of prayer and penance.
From the earliest days of the Church, Lent has been a special time of preparation for Baptism.
For those already baptized, Lent is a time of conversion and renewed faith. It is a time to "exercise" our desire for God by opening our hearts to the new life offered to us in Christ. Jesus exhorts us to "repent and believe in the Gospel." Only conversion can lead to true happiness, and God's grace is needed to inspire and sustain our efforts to direct our hearts completely to him. Conversion consists in recognizing that we depend entirely on God, who created us and redeemed us in Christ.
In my Lenten message this year, I wanted to emphasize God's immense love for us, and to invite all Christians, together with Mary and the Beloved Disciple, to draw near to the Lord, who gave his life for us on the Cross.
The Cross –the definitive revelation of God's love and mercy- is the only way to enter this mystery of saving love. This Lent, by a more fervent participation in the Eucharist, may we learn to enter more deeply into the Paschal Mystery and to "re-give" Christ's love to others, especially the suffering and those in need.

LOVE OF ENEMY
How can we love our enemies, turn the other cheek, or give people the shirt off our back? And why should we? How far will that get us?
That is what Jesus said will get us far indeed. We should treat enemies with the very kindness and mercy of God, the way David and Abishai treated their enemy Saul, the Lord's anointed.
We should refrain from judging them. We should stop condemning them. We should forgive them. We should give to them a generous measure. We should do good to them. We should love them.
We are challenged to love and pardon those who wrong us!

RETURNING THE LORD'S GOODNESS
Diocese of Monterey: Annual Bishop's Appeal 2007
Our parish goal for the 2007 Annual Bishop's Appeal (ABA) is for at least 50 of families to pledge $10,280.00 to support Catholic education, Faith Formation, Hispanic Ministry, Permanent Deacon Program, Vocations and more ministries, plus our Parish.
The ABA provides a convenient way for all of us, no matter what our time limitations, to take an active role in the Mission of the Church. As a guide to a proportionate gift, please consider pledging a percent of your income, or the pay for one or two hours work each month for eight months. You can submit your ABA Pledge envelope during Masses this weekend or next, or return them to the parish office.
No gift is too small!
Temple Beth El Jewish Community Center
We are all invited to view an extraordinary documentary that will be shown during the Jewish Film Festival. Sister Rose's Passion is an inspiring portrait of a remarkable woman who challenged the doctrine that blamed the Jews for the death of Jesus.
Sister Rose's story is a truly amazing one of an American nun of the Dominican Order.
The movie will be screened Sunday afternoon March 4th at 1:00 PM at Cabrillo College, Room Forum 450. A discussion will follow the film. Free admission.
SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
February 11, 2007
BLESSED
Luke's Gospel tells how Jesus spoke to a large number of people who had gathered to be healed and to hear him.
Jesus expanded the meaning of the golden rule, illustrating with the "blessed" –those goalposts of holiness.
We come closest to the reign of God by being poor or hungry or by weeping. When we are hated or insulted on account of the Son of Man, on that day can we rejoice and leap for joy!
Acting as God acts toward us opens us to great reward through the Messiah, the Christ.
Our Lady of Lourdes
In 1858 the Virgin Mary Immaculate appeared to Bernadette Soubirous near Lourdes in France within the cave of Massabielle. Through this humble girl, Mary called sinners to conversion and enkindled within the Church a great zeal for prayer and charity, especially service to the sick and poor.
She told me she was the Immaculate Conception.

"Trust in the Lord and he will help you."
Prv 20:22
God is totally trustworthy. We cannot say this about any other person. But it is so hard to trust anyone when we have been betrayed or let down, as all of us have. Saint Faustina of Poland in the early part of the twentieth century conveyed the message that Jesus is worthy of our trust and full of mercy towards us, no matter what we have done.
Let us rest our cares on Jesus and trust in him.

HEARING THE CALL
Isaiah's prophetic call is mysterious: God's smoky and glorious presence in the sanctuary, with the seraphim crying out as we do in the Eucharistic prayer, "Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory."
Peter, James, and John were called from much more mundane circumstances: hauling in fish.
We are all called from where we are: "Follow the Lord, and proclaim his risen presence."
Like Paul, we are called to receive this summons and live out lives in response to it.

STEWARDSHIP
Yet, O Lord, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all the work of your hands. Isaiah 64:7
As Christians it is our duty to discern our vocation and follow God faithfully in it. If we are still discerning our vocation, are we open to God's will, including the possibility of celibacy, the religious life, or the priesthood? I we have already found our vocation, are we faithful to it even when it is difficult? It is only by following God in our vocation and loving him in obedience that we can be truly happy and fulfilled.

February 5 AGATHA.
Virgin and martyr.
Agatha, the name of our saint, means "good." She was truly good, for she lived as a child of God. She was also given as the gift of God, the source of all goodness to her bridegroom, Christ, and to us. For she grants us a share in her goodness.
Agatha, her goodness coincides with her name and way of life.
She teaches them by her example to hasten with her to the true Good, God alone.
The gift of God, the source of all goodness.

From a letter by Saint Marie Bernadette Soubirous:
I had gone down one day with two other girls to the bank of the river Gave when suddenly I heard a kind of rustling sound. I turned my head toward the field by the side of the river but the trees seemed quite still and the noise was evidently not from them. Then I looked up and caught sight of the cave where I saw a lady wearing a lovely white dress with a bright belt. On top of each of her feet was a pale yellow rose, the same color as her rosary beads.
At this I rubbed my eyes, thinking I was seeing Things, and I put my hands into the fold of my dress where my rosary was...

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
January 28, 2007
The people who hear Jesus preach in the synagogue are amazed at his gracious words. Yet they insist on measuring him according to their own sub-par standards. But "when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away," and the perfect has come in Jesus Christ.
The prophetic words of Christ enable us to know fully, even as we are fully known by God from the first moment he formed us in the womb. The risk loves this man. The furious people of Capernaum try to kill him.
Christ safely passes through the midst of them, leaving his believers with this assurance: They will fight against you but will not prevail, for I am with you to deliver you.
"Love never fails."
"So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

STEWARDSHIP
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. (Is 9:5)
As Christians, followers of the Prince of Peace, we are called to be peacemakers in the worlds. But how often do we find ourselves causing strife rather than peace by our careless words and actions? God does not ask us to be defenseless pr "pushover," but he does call us not to cause harm to others. Just as by helping the unfortunate we can show our love for Christ, by our negligence or ill will towards our brothers and sisters, we show disregard for our Savior.
Let us live joyfully in love and peace!

THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
January 21, 2007
PROMISE FULFILLED
Jesus stood up in his hometown synagogue and read aloud from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah a description of the Messiah.
He startled listeners by saying "Today this prophecy is being fulfilled in your hearing!"
This is sensational news handed on to us in the Gospel of Luke.
Even better is the news that the Messiah's work is handed on to all of us, parts of his body. In so many, ways we receive the teaching handed on to us and hand it on, in turn, to family members, neighbors, friends and strangers!
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." Lk.1: 14

2007 ANNUAL BISHOP'S APPEAL
"The Annual Bishop's Appeal (ABA) will start in our parish on February 2007. The ABA provide an opportunity for us to join with all parishes throughout the Diocese of Monterey to support programs and services that benefit our own parish as well as our Diocesan ministries. Look for a letter from Fr. Eugenio along with a brochure about the ABA in the coming week, and prayerfully consider how your family will respond to this call to carry on Christ's work in our community."
Fr. Eugenio invites former or non-practicing Catholics to "TAKE ANOTHER LOOK" at the Catholic Church. This special series begins Saturday Jan. 20 after 5:00 p.m. Mass in the Rectory. This is an opportunity to share one's experiences, to find "a hearing," and take another look at the Church.
"A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance" (Proverbs 15: 13)
Let us always meet each other with a smile,… for a smile is the beginning of love.
Jesus can demand a great deal from us. It is precisely in those instances when He demands a great deal from us that we should give Him a beautiful smile.
We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.
We speak of our God, good, clement and understanding; but are we the living proof of it? Those who suffer, can they see this goodness, this forgiving God, this real understanding in us? Never let anyone come to you without coming away better and happier. Everyone should see goodness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile.

Wedding Gifts
The Lord likes weddings. Scripture presents the Lord as a bridegroom delighting in his bride: At Cana, Jesus, his mother and his disciples were guests at a wedding. When the couple needed help, Jesus creatively showed his glory. The last wine turned out to be the best.
God's Spirit shares gifts with us for very good reasons. We receive the gifts with joy and use them for salvation. Being a guest at this great wedding can change everything.

REVERENCE FOR LIFE
"Whoever welcomes a child welcomes me" (Mk 9:37)
Life is sacred. The Life of every human being is sacred as the creation of God, and is of infinite value because He created each person including the unborn.
The image of God is on that unborn child…
For me… life is the most beautiful gift to God to mankind, therefore people and nations who destroy life by abortion and euthanasia are the poorest –for they have not got food for one more child, home for one old person. So they must add more cruel murder into this world.
Mother Teresa
The belief that God will do everything for man is as untenable as the belief that man can do everything for himself. It too, is based on a lack of faith. We must learn that to expect God to do everything while we do nothing is not faith, but superstition.

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
January 7, 2007
Epiphany
(Matthew 2: 1-12)
They listened deep inside, far into the darkness where even a tiny bit of light seemed like sunburst in the heart.
They pondered the silent music that echoed in their prayer:
"Go. Search. Look. Follow. Find."
A journey without precedent, adventure wrought with risk, a time of travel filled with faith.
They went lovingly, eagerly, into the night of their lives, trusting they would find the way.
They paused to inquire, to study, they went on in faith, patiently, following with the hearts' eyes, and "the sight of the star filled them with delight."
A journey not in vain, a patient search rewarded, their steady courage in the unknown led them to their heart's delight.
They found the long-sought One, waiting to be found, longing to be discovered, as they traveled the far stretches of their long and hidden night.
